Water jets utilize specially designed pumps and nozzles that require a specific water quality threshold in order to work properly. Water jet manufacturer warranties also depend on these specifications being met. Common criteria and specifications are dissolved solids under 100 or 150 parts per million, hardness under 100 parts per million; and pH between 6.5 and 8.0.

Certain water chemistry may make deionization tanks a better solution than water softeners or reverse osmosis equipment. These tanks remove all of the dissolved solids from the water and collect them on the resin inside the tank. A light on the tanks will tell you when they are exhausted and need exchanging for new tanks.  This is a more costly solution than reverse osmosis or water softening but they may be necessary with certain water chemistry.
